Stokes Lawrence partnered with the Seattle Chocolate Company to protect its exciting new brand by securing the “MAEVE CHOCOLATE” trademark. Queen Maeve was a mythical Celtic queen; the word means “she who intoxicates or causes joy” – perfect for a luxury chocolate brand. Our creative, strategic IP approach ensured the company could confidently launch its new MAEVE identity.
Seattle Chocolate Company/Maeve Chocolate is a family-run, women-owned maker of signature melt-in-your-mouth truffle bars and bonbons. Led by CEO Jean Thompson and her daughter, Ellie, Maeve champions ethical sourcing, carbon neutrality, and sparking joy through imaginative chocolate creations.
As Maeve prepared to launch its bold new brand identity, an existing trademark threatened to block the company’s ability to protect the “MAEVE CHOCOLATE” mark. Clearing this obstacle was essential to ensuring a smooth, confident transition into the new brand.
Working closely with Maeve leadership, the Stokes Lawrence IP team developed a strategic plan to secure the “MAEVE CHOCOLATE” mark. We successfully pursued cancellation of a conflicting registration, navigated the USPTO process, and suggested negotiated solutions to other hurdles – all to guide the company through each step of new brand acquisition and protection.
The successful U.S. registration of “MAEVE CHOCOLATE” cleared the way for Maeve’s transformative rebrand. This outcome reflects the Stokes Lawrence IP team’s ability to creatively and strategically protect our clients’ brands. Our partnership continues as Maeve expands, innovates, and builds its joyful chocolate legacy.
