Noncompetition restrictions in physician employment agreements preclude a physician from practicing in a defined geographic area for a stated period of time. With the consolidation of the region’s major health systems, physicians seeking to change employers may be subject to post-employment restrictions that effectively preclude his or her departure unless the physician is willing to leave the area.
