We are deeply saddened by the passing of our dear friend and colleague John Moore.

John was born in Sunnyside. He graduated from Yakima High School in 1936. He attended Yakima Junior College and then the University of Washington, for both undergraduate and law school. His law school days were interrupted by World War II. John served in the army in Alaska, working on security (monitoring telephone calls)  and code breaking activities. After the war, he finished  law school and started practice in 1947. He practiced for the next 67 years in Yakima.  In 1955, he founded the firm Velikanje & Moore with Fred Velikanje and served the agricultural community in Central Washington. The firm would grow to eventually become Velikanje Moore & Shore. In 2007, John, along with George Velikanje, Morrie Shore, Brendan Monahan and Sarah Wixson joined Stokes Lawrence to form the Yakima office of Stokes Lawrence Velikanje Moore & Shore.

John was well respected in the legal community. He was active in bar association activities and served as a member of the board of governors. He was also a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. John also served as a mentor to many young lawyers, some of whom eventually became his partners in practice. John touched the lives of many and is remembered for his great sense of humor and an endearing personality that quickly won over everyone he met. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, clients and colleagues.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. April 3, 2014 at Grace of Christ Presbyterian Church, 9 South Eighth Avenue, Yakima (click here for directions to Grace of Christ Presbyterian Church).
