Oct 13, 2017

Erika HartliepStokes Lawrence Velikanje Moore & Shore attorney Erika Hartliep was named a Ninth Circuit Lawyer Representative for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Washington. Her term will run from November 1, 2017 until October 31, 2020.

In her role as Lawyer Representative, Erika will serve as a member of the District’s Attorney Advisory Committee, which acts as a conduit between the bench and the bar in order to foster open communication between judges and attorneys. As a prior staff attorney to U.S. District Court Judge Edward Shea, Erika worked closely with Eastern District staff and judges; these relationships and working knowledge of District procedure will enable Erika to effectively serve as a Lawyer Representative and on the Attorney Advisory Committee.

Committee members listen to comments and questions from members of the Eastern District bar regarding the local rules of the court, courtroom practices and procedure, and any additional concerns about practicing in federal court. They then relay those concerns to the judges of the Eastern District and discuss potential improvements to court operations and procedures. Lawyer Representatives play a leading role in educating members of the bar about the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference, and vote in all elections during the conference, including all resolutions.

Erika is a member of the firm’s Litigation practice, where she assists clients with commercial litigation and environmental matters and employment disputes.
