Stokes Lawrence attorney Aviva Kamm was quoted in a recent article on the Affordable Care Act that appeared in the Puget Sound Business Journal. The article “Attorneys busy with Affordable Care Act compliance questions,” (subscription required) reminds readers that the deadline for employer compliance with the act is just weeks away.

With the looming deadline has come an uptick in client inquiries about compliance. Aviva noted that a number of her clients are asking about wellness plans and how they mesh with the ACA, as well as how seasonal or agricultural workers may be covered under the act.

The article also provides advice from employment attorneys focusing in this area, such as “be prepared and have a strategy or plan in place now on which employees you'll offer coverage to, how you will count part-time or seasonal workers, and finally, how the cost of the coverage tracks with the employees' salaries.”

Aviva’s advice to everyone, employers and employees alike, is that no one can afford to take an ostrich approach anymore.
