On Friday, February 11, the National Conference of Women’s Bar Association and the ABA Law Practice Division hosted “Reconnecting with the Workplace.”

Moderators Kit Chaskin, Director and Caitlin M.W. Annatoyn, Assistant Director of Northwestern Pritzker School of Law’s Gender Equity Initiatives, moderated an exploratory discussion on the impact of changes in the workplace for women in the legal profession, particularly attributed to the pandemic.

The panelists, representing in-house, private practice, and government settings, offered their take on how law firms and other legal employers can work to shift those statistics by helping female attorneys avoid overwork and overcommitment, which have been shown to lead to high levels of stress and ultimately burnout and attrition.

In addition to Stokes Lawrence Managing Partner, Kelly Twiss Noonan, panel members included:

  • Julie Simon, Chief Legal Officer and Chief Diversity Officer, Mary Kay, Inc.;
  • Betty Ungerman, Vice President and General Counsel, Lennox International, Inc.; and,
  • Maritza Dominguez Braswell, newly named federal magistrate judge for the U.S. District Court of Colorado.
