history

Stokes Lawrence was founded in 1981 as Monroe & Perry by Dick Monroe and Wayne Perry. Reflecting the background of its founders, the firm provided the types of legal services characteristic of much larger corporate law firms. In 1985, Wayne Perry left the firm to become President of McCaw Cellular Communications, Inc., which, as AT&T Wireless Services, continued as one of the firm's clients. Our long relationship with McCaw and other telecommunications and media clients has resulted in a depth of knowledge and experience in the telecommunications industry in general and in the cellular telephone and paging businesses in particular.

In 1986, the firm became a professional service corporation.  We have grown over the years by attracting top law students and judicial clerks, as well as highly regarded practicing attorneys from larger Seattle law firms. Stokes Lawrence continues to practice at the highest level, while providing the personalized services that are possible in a small-firm environment.
