The Stokes Lawrence Family Law group handles a variety of "family in transition" issues from simple to complex and deals with a spectrum of client approaches from highly emotional to focused business decisions. We understand the impact a dissolution or other family matter can have on your emotional and financial state. Our attorneys have a range of billing rates, and with the use of skilled paraprofessionals and cutting edge technology, we are efficient and effective. We frequently work with experts in other fields including asset tracing, tax, wealth management, estate planning, real estate, property appraisal, and all manner of private investigation.
In handling your case, our first choice is often to try to seek common ground through open communication and, when appropriate, the use of mediators. When cooperative decision making is not possible, we are prepared to litigate, aggressively if necessary. We pride ourselves on understanding which approach is appropriate at which point in a case. Most important, we listen to you and respect your views.
When handling a dissolution of marriage or domestic partnership, or a legal separation, our tasks are to identify, value and divide assets and liabilities; value and distribute retirement plans, stock options and other economic interests; trace and characterize separate and community property; create parenting plans; and determine maintenance and child support. We also represent parties in modifications of child support; modifications of parenting plans; paternity actions; the dissolution of civil unions and same-sex marriages created outside of Washington; and the dissolution of committed and intimate relationships where the parties never married.
On the non-litigation side, we prepare cohabitation agreements, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, and assisted reproduction agreements.
