Susan Thorbrogger
PRACTICE EMPHASIS:
Susan is a shareholder of the firm. She focuses her practice on closely-held companies for whom she serves as outside general counsel, understanding their businesses and advising them on legal issues.
CLIENT REPRESENTATIONS:
In more than twenty years of practice, Susan has assisted clients with a wide range of business matters, including mergers and acquisitions; federal and state tax issues; the formation and operations of corporations, partnerships, and limited liability companies; the structuring of real estate transactions; and planning for succession in family businesses.
OTHER EXPERIENCE:
Prior to joining Stokes Lawrence, Susan practiced law for 18 years with another Seattle law firm where she was chair of the Business and Tax Practice Section and served on the firm’s Executive Committee. She was also a CPA for a predecessor of Deloitte. Prior to law school, Susan taught mathematics at the secondary and college level for six years. She continues to teach as a speaker at seminars of the Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants, the American Society of Women Accountants, the Attorney-CPA Tax Clinic, the University of Washington School of Law, and other professional organizations.
ACTIVITIES:
Susan is a past officer or board member of various community and professional organizations, including the Olympic Music Festival, Communities in Schools of Washington State, Hilltop Community, Inc., Women Business Owners, Washington Women in Tax, and the American Society of Women Accountants.
EDUCATION:
Susan obtained her law degree and M.B.A. from the University of Washington. She received her B.A. from Carleton College, Northfield, Minnesota and M.S. from the University of Washington, both in mathematics.
ADMISSIONS:
Susan is admitted to the Washington State Bar and the United States Tax Court.

Susan is recognized as one of the Best Lawyers in America and also as a Super Lawyer and one of the Top Fifty Female Lawyers in Washington by WASHINGTON LAW & POLITICS magazine.
