Kelly Wiley

PRACTICE EMPHASIS:

Kelly practices in the areas of family law and litigation. She is an experienced trial lawyer in both state and federal courts. In addition to representing clients in domestic matters, Kelly will maintain her practice of representing governmental entities in employment, civil rights and tort liability cases.

REPRESENTATIVE CASES:

  • Dismissal on summary judgment of all nine causes of action for the City of Snohomish in an alleged civil rights and defamation lawsuit filed in the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington.
  • Employment claim dismissal affirmed by Division II of the Court of Appeals. Division II affirmed the Pierce County Superior Court’s granting of the City of Sumner’s summary judgment motion.
  • Dismissal for the Ohio Casualty Company in a federal court declaratory relief action. The Honorable Ronald Leighton of the Western District Court granted Ohio Casualty’s motion and dismissed a third-party complaint filed against it in a declaratory action arising from an alleged wrongful death case of a twelve-year-old boy.
  • Defense jury verdict for the City of Auburn in a million dollar civil rights and employment lawsuit in the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington.
  • Summary judgment dismissal for the City of Mercer Island Police Department in a civil rights lawsuit alleging racial profiling.
  • Summary judgment dismissal for the City of Snohomish in an alleged wrongful termination and defamation case.
  • Summary judgment dismissal for the City of Kirkland Police Department in a civil rights lawsuit alleging wrongful arrest, conspiracy and defamation.

OTHER EXPERIENCE:

Prior to joining the firm, Kelly was a senior associate with Keating, Bucklin & McCormack, P.S. She was a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in both King and Skagit Counties where she tried over 30 jury trials. She also was a litigation associate at a large civil litigation firm in Seattle where she represented a variety of private and public clients.

EDUCATION:

Kelly obtained her J.D. from Seattle University School of Law in 1994 and her B.S. in political science from the University of Washington in 1988.

ADMISSIONS:

Kelly is admitted to the Washington State Bar, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the U.S. District Court, Western and Eastern Districts of Washington.
