Jill L. Geary

PRACTICE EMPHASIS:

Jill Geary practices in the areas of family law and special education law. Her family law practice focuses on matrimonial litigation, including dissolutions involving complex discovery and valuation issues, child custody disputes, and modifications of child support and parenting plans. Her special education practice focuses on representing parents in obtaining an appropriate public education for their disabled child.

OTHER EXPERIENCE:

Prior to joining Stokes Lawrence, Jill worked for seven years as an Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) for the State of Washington Office of Administrative Hearings. As an ALJ, she specialized in due process hearings for the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction, presiding over hearings involving the identification, evaluation, education, and discipline of disabled children under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

Prior to becoming an ALJ, Jill worked as a family law attorney in a private and a non-profit practice.

EDUCATION:

Jill received her law degree from Seattle University School of Law (formerly University of Puget Sound School of Law) in 1993. She obtained her B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley in 1988.

ADMISSIONS:

Jill is admitted to the Washington State Bar (1993).

SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS:

Jill has been a continuing legal education presenter on the topics of administrative hearings and special education due process hearings at seminars sponsored by the Washington State Bar Association, Seattle University School of Law and the Attorney General’s Office.
